Santa Run a Holiday Success

The annual Santa Run, held to raise canned food donations for the needy, was again successful. The event was held over several weekends throughout December and covered the entire residential area of Peachtree City.

Explorer Post Participates in Fire Camp

The P.C.F.D. Explorer Post 209 recently participated in a department sponsored fire camp. The camp was designed to teach the Explorers fundamental skills of firefighting in a 'real-world' environment. The young adults lived at the fire station and were given a schedule of various skills and scenerios to complete. Training was conducted at the P.C.F.D. training center on Paschal Rd. with the assistance of on-shift personnel and Post Advisors. The Fire Camp was a great success and will become an annual Explorer Post activity.

Promotion Ceremony Held

A ceremony was held recently to honor those who were promoted to new positions. The department would once again like to honor the following members:

Driver Extricated in MVA in Kedron

P.C.F.D. crews responded to an MVA at the corner of World Dr. and Peacthree Pkwy. on Monday. One patient had to be extricated from their vehicle and was taken via ambulance to a nearby medical center.

P.C.F.D. Fights Residential Fire on Thanksgiving Day

Stations 82 & 84 were dispatched to a residential fire Thursday afternoon in Glenloch Villiage. First arriving companies found smoke and flames issuing from a two story residential building. The fire was quickly brought under control and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Company 83 Responds to a Vehicle Accident with Entrapment

P.C.F.D. Company 83 along with Rescue 8 and Battalion 8 responded to a single vehicle accident with entrapment early Thursday morning. The accident occurred on Peachtree Parkway near the Village on the Green subdivision. First-arriving units found a pickup truck overturned in the median with one person trapped inside. The cab of the truck was completely flattened and the occupants hand was pinned under the vehicle. Firefighters from Co. 83 used the jaws of life to gain access to the vehicle. The patient was flown via medical helicopter to an Atlanta trauma center.

Pumpkin Sales & Haunted House Underway

The annual pumpkin sale and haunted house fundraisers are well underway in the Dept. The first shipment of approximately 1.700 pumpkins were delivered on Sept. 30th. Pumpkins are sold at station 81 off Paschal Rd. and station 83 off S. Peachtree Pkwy. The P.C.F.D. haunted house began Oct. 19th at station 81 and runs through Oct. 27th. These events are two of the biggest department functions and raise thousands of dollars a year for equipment purchases, training, and uniforms.

Public Safety Games a Success

The 2007 Public Safety Games sponsored by the Fayette County Parks & Recreation Dept. were held this month. Those competing were: Peachtree City Police Dept., Peachtree City Fire Dept., Fayette County Fire/911, Fayetteville Fire Dept. Some of the events in this year's games were bowling, table tennis, softball, and fishing. Taking first place this year was Fayette County Fire/911, second place Peachtree City Fire Dept., third place Fayetteville Fire Dept., and fourth place Peachtree City Police Dept. P.C.F.D. would like to extend a special thank you to Chad Matheny for his help with making the games a great success.

Recruit Class Graduates

The Peachtree City Fire Department would like to congratulate the recent graduates of the Firefighter recruit class. The newly minted Firefighters completed over 200 hours of training in basic firefighting, first aid, and hazardous materials response. The graduates of this years "B" shift recruit class are:

John Ciancia, Michael Kendall, Joseph Lanave, Sean Liverman, Kevin McMullen, Michael Noles, Martine Rose and Anthony Schmit

Recruits Obtain NPQ Firefighter I Certification

Several Firefighter recruits successfully completed NPQ Firefighter I certification testing this weekend. The recruits are required to obtain this certification along with NPQ Hazardous Materials Awareness. Crews Fight Commercial Building Fire

The Peachtree City Fire Department responded to numerous alarms in the past several days as a result of strong thunderstorms that moved through the area. During the course of the severe weather, B shift responded to a commercial fire at the Edward Jones building. The crews were able to stop the spread of the fire with only a moderate amount of damage to the structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Ed Eiswerth Named P.C.F.D. Chief

Long-time P.C.F.D. member and Acting Chief Ed Eiswerth has been named Chief of the Department. The announcement came last night at the regular city council meeting. The Department would like to extend our congratulations to Chief Eiswerth and wish him much success in his new position.

New P.C.F.D. Engine Delivered

The Peachtree City Fire Department is proud to announce the delivery of a new Rescue Pumper from Central States Fire Apparatus. The vehicle will replace Engine 82, which will be put in reserve status. The new truck features a four door Spartan Evolution chassis with a raised roof. In addition to a full compliment of firefighting equipment, the vehicle also carries the Hurst "Jaws of Life" as well as other specialized rescue equipment.

P.C.F.D. Members Complete HazMat Technician Course

Several members of the Peachtree City Fire Department recently completed the NPQ Hazardous Materials Technician course offered by the Georgia Fire Academy. The course trains Firefighters in mitigating hazardous materials emergencies. The department would like to congratulate the new HazMat Tech's and welcome them to the Hazardous Materials Team.

Airplane Loses Landing Gear at Falcon Field

A replica war airplane recently lost part of its landing gear at Peachtree City Falcon Field. The airplane sustained moderate damage, however, no one was hurt in the incident.

Firefighter/Paramedic Cannaday to Retire

Firefighter/Paramedic Chester Cannaday has announced his retirement from the Peachtree City Fire Department. A reception in his honor will be held Friday, May 4th. P.C.F.D. congratulates Firefighter/Paramedic Cannaday on his retirement.

Chief Lohr Retires From P.C.F.D.

The Peachtree City Fire Department congratulates Chief Stoney Lohr on his retirement from P.C.F.D. Chief Lohr served the department for many years, working his way up the chain of command and serving in many different capacities. He is credited with numerous improvements to the Fire Department including increased manpower and the addition of several state-of-the-art fire apparatus. A reception was held for Chief Lohr at the Flat Creek Club. Asst. Chief Ed Eiswerth has been appointed Acting Fire Chief.

Crews Practice LPG Fire Control

The Peachtree City Fire Department recently participated in a joint training class offered by the Georgia Fire Academy. P.C.F.D. worked with the Fairburn and Coweta County Fire Departments to practice LPG fire control techniques. An on-site LPG fire simulator has been installed at the P.C.F.D. training center and will be operational soon so that future classes can be held in the city for all members.

Peachtree City Fire Department Officers And Staff Recognized

On January 27th 2007 the dedicated staff of the Peachtree City Fire Department turned out to honor their own at their annual awards banquet. The Department utilizes this event to install newly elected members of the Volunteer Associations Board of Directors and recognize their members who perform above and beyond the level of expectations of their grueling profession. 

The venue for this year’s event was the elegant Glendalough Manor in neighboring Tyrone.  The list of special guest included Mayor Logsdon, Council Representative Judi-Ann Rutherford, City Manager Bernie McMullen and numerous Life Members of the organization. There were also members of the Peachtree City Rotary and the Sons of the American Revolution on hand to show support for the organization.

The Incoming Board of Directors Members Included:

Vice-President: Lance Meyer

Treasurer: Gary Half, Incumbent

Secretary: Karen Corsetti

E.M.S. Representative: Chad Matheny

The evening concluded with a benediction delivered by the Departments Chaplin John Weber and entertainment provided by the Southeast’s favorite DJ’s.
